ICRC-ALUMNI

In June 2021, we organized two information sessions on the possibilities of applying hypnosis in a humanitarian setting. Following this, we set up a project during which we performed three hypnoses with people suffering from signs of post-traumatic stress. The effectiveness of the sessions was evaluated after three sessions by a questionnaire.

  • All individuals were exposed to one or more particularly stressful events in the field.

AHH measured the intensity of the signs experienced above, with the scale ranging from 1 for the least intense to 10 for the most intense.

20% of the participants indicated that they experienced signs with an intensity of more than 7. 20% indicated an intensity of 4 and 60% an intensity of 2 to 3.

After the (1 to 3) hypnosis sessions, 80% of the participants had only weak signs. This shows that hypnosis is effective in the humanitarian field.

This finding is corroborated by the fact that 60% of the participants wished they had known about hypnosis before going on their mission and that 80% of them would recommend hypnosis to their humanitarian colleagues.

It should be noted, however, that two additional hypnosis sessions could provide even more support to humanitarians in future projects.

Workshop-Hypnosis to relieve invisible wounds and support humanitarians

Following the ICRC-Alumni Project, we received a mandate from an NGO, "Toiles de Vies," in the canton of Valais. The NGO uses weaving techniques as a catalyst to promote integration. This project would like to allow the participants to better understand the local society's cultural and professional issues, gain independence, and eventually integrate an internship in the environment of their choice.

AHH familiarized the trainers with the challenges in the humanitarian context and strategies to increase resilience with hypnotic techniques. Migrants and trainers also learned tools to better deal with everyday stress and overwhelming emotions

  • The workshop was a great success and the feedback was very positive. Even though many of the women did not speak French well, they understood the exercises well and benefited from their positive effect. Both the trainers and the refugees were very open-minded and participated willingly in all the exercises.

The workshop was very well targeted to the needs of the refugees and the trainers.

The Mindfield “Panel Women in the field”

We are pleased to have also created a collaboration between "The MindField" and the Association Hypnose Humanitaire AHH. The Mindfield is a platform that connects international development workers, journalists, and other professionals with therapists.

Our collaboration aims to provide fast and effective support through hypnosis to humanitarian workers and employees of humanitarian institutions.

A first collaboration has already taken place with the participation of the president of the Association Hypnose Humanitaire (AHH), Marta Hegyaljai Python, in a panel organized by "The Mindfield" on the theme "Women in the field"” She explained how hypnosis could help women working in the humanitarian field.

Workshop: Hypnosis and Trauma

The association organized, in collaboration with MHP&Partners, its first workshop entitled: Hypnosis and Trauma in the humanitarian context. The workshop took place on April 22, 2022, in Fribourg. Five certified therapists learned how to intervene with appropriate strategies and methods in a humanitarian context in different stressful and traumatic situations. The objective is to allow people to reconnect with their resources and strengthen their resilience through hypnotherapy and hypnotic techniques.

All the speakers who participated in the workshop were part of the founding committee and acted as volunteers. All proceeds from the workshop were donated to the association's accounts. The workshop was a great success, as evidenced by the overall rating of 10/10 given by the workshop participants. Everyone would recommend the workshop.

AHH is very happy to have therapists among its members who wish to engage in the realization of the association's goals actively.
